Afghani drugs trafficker who escaped from police custody re-arrested
-Arrested accused Ahmad Jawid alias Nabi (51), a resident of Meckeny, Panjshir, Afghanistan, was lodged in Tihar Jail in NDPS act from 2014. Delhi police has declared a reward of Rs 1 Lakh on his arrest. -On 30 September, 2017, Jawid fled after he was referred to Ortho Department in AIIMS for treatment.
An Afghanistan national drugs trafficker who had escaped from Delhi police custody in September, 2017, has been arrested by Delhi police’s special cell on Saturday night. The arrested accused Ahmad Jawid alias Nabi (51), a resident of Meckeny, Panjshir, Afghanistan, was lodged in Tihar Jail in NDPS act in 2014. Delhi police had declared a reward of Rs 1 Lakh on his arrest.
A team of Special Cell arrested Nabi on a tip-off from District Park, opposite Hauz Rani, Saket, Delhi on Saturday night around 9 PM.
DCP, Special cell, Pramod Singh Kushwah said that Special Cell had arrested Jawid from Delhi with 4 Kg Heroin in 2014. He was then lodged in Tihar Jail. But he escaped from police custody during treatment at AIIMS hospital in 2017. “On 30 September, Jawid along with other under trial prisoners was taken to AIIMS hospital by Delhi Police. He was referred to Ortho Department in AIIMS for treatment of his backache. On the day of incident, some of the prisoners being severely injured, required assistance for transfer from prisoner’s vehicle to stretcher. In between, Jawaid got an opportunity and escaped from police custody when the concerned Police officers were busy in getting the other handicapped and injured onto stretcher,” DCP, Kushwha said.
“After his escape, the accused had changed his getup and initially lived under the guise of a tourist. He traveled to Bangladesh border for trying to escape to Bangladesh through the porous borders but wasn’t able to execute the plan and returned to Delhi. He was also trying to procure Afghani passport on fake identity through his sources in Afghanistan,” DCP further said.
Ahmad Jawid came in contact with one Ghaffur in Afghanistan, who lured him into the racket of drug trafficking. He was tasked with smuggling of heroin, Cocaine and other contrabands in India, said a senior Delhi police official.
