Delhi police arrested ‘wanted’ Jaish militant from Srinagar
Faiyaz Ahmad Lone, a resident of Kupwara, had been evading arrest since 2015. He was wanted in a case in which a non-bailable warrant was issued against him by the Delhi High Court, police said.Lone was carrying a reward of Rs two lakhs.

Delhi police’s special cell on Monday claimed to have arrested an alleged terrorist of the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) from Srinagar. Faiyaz Ahmad Lone, a resident of Kupwara, had been evading arrest since 2015. He was wanted in a case in which a non-bailable warrant was issued against him by the Delhi High Court, police said. Lone was carrying a reward of Rs two lakhs.
In 2007, on the basis of secret information, officials of Special Cell of Delhi Police apprehended four terrorists of Jaish-e-Mohd. (JeM), a banned terrorist organization, Shahid Gafoor , a resident of Siyalkot, Pakistan, Bashir Ahmed Ponnu, District. Baramullah, J & K, Fayaz Ahmed Lone from Kupwara, J&K and Abdul Majeed Baba aresident of Baramullah, J&K, after a brief encounter at Deen Dayal Upadhayay Marg, Delhi.
3 kg. explosive material, 4 non-electric detonators, one timer, 6 hand grenades, one star make pistol of .30 bore, one magazine with two live cartridges, Indian Rs.50,000 and fake US $ 10,000 were recovered from their possession.
After being convicted, accused Bashir Ahmed Ponnu alias Maulvi, Fayaz Ahmed Lone and Abdul Majeed Baba did not appear before the Hon’ble High Court of Delhi and deliberately absconded their arrest. Thereafter, High Court issued Non-bailable warrants against them several times since 2014 but none turned up against it. Considering the gravity of their act, a reward of Rs. 2 Lakh was declared on the arrest of each of the absconding three accused person by Delhi Police.
Finally, on March 25, 2019, acting upon a tip-off, one of the three accused namely Fayaz Ahmad Lone was successfully arrested from the area of PS KothiBagh, Srinagar.
“In 2005, he came in contact with Altaf Ahmed Kirmani from Baramulla, a member of JeM. He persuaded Fayyaz Ahmed to become a member of JeM and earn easy money in return. He started working upon the directions of local JeMcommanders like Haider alias Doctor and soon became an active member of JeM. Since his absconding the adverse judicial verdict of Delhi High Court, he has been in regular touch with top JeM commanders and members based in Pakistan, J&K and neighbouring areas,” said Sanjeev Kumar Yadav, DCP Special Cell.
