Dubai [UAE], Mar 30 (ANI): Over 10,000 fans joined England skipper Eoin Morgan for the ICC Cricket World Cup Trophy Tour in Manchester for the first of three Super Saturdays.
At the Exchange Square, Morgan was accompanied by former English players Sajid Mahmood and Ajmal Shahzad who played at the 2007 and 2011 editions, respectively. “I think these events are extremely successful. For us, as players, they give us a great chance to go out and meet all the supporters regardless of what team you are going to support,” ICC quoted Morgan, as saying.
“It is a great opportunity for the cricket supporters and lovers around the world to grow the game. When you look around and see the people today who have turned out, it is a real testament to the hard work the Cricket World Cup organising committee has put in,” he said.
The takeover of the city was enhanced as a wickets mural was revealed in Thomas Street and High Street, giving fans the chance to win tickets to the highly-anticipated clash between India and Pakistan, which will be played on June 16 at the Old Trafford.
Additionally, a large inflatable cricket ball with the words ‘Are you in?’ was on display and the famous faces and fans extended their support for the tournament by signing the ball.
The World Cup 2019 is set to run from May 30 to July 14 in England and Wales. (ANI)
